What makes an OBU Global Studies degree special?

Global Studies synthesizes the comparative approach of anthropology with the focus on political institutions offered by political science. Political institutions range from those that dictate to their population to those that take orders from their population, and many are a dynamic negotiation between the two – a process guided by cultural expectation.

Global Studies emphasizes cultural comparisons of the extent to which people participate in political action and the manner in which they participate. Central questions include, “What will this society accept?” and, “What is the cultural root of these boundaries of expectation?” This degree also examines the legacy of Western hegemony in the model of the nation-state as it has been enforced, adopted and adapted around the world and across history.

A degree in Global Studies will prepare students for a variety of vocations as graduates will be prepared to navigate and participate in the diverse political institutions of a globally connected world.
