About

This Computer Systems and Networking programme from the University of Greenwich has been created in response to industry demand for graduates with the knowledge and technical skills to design, create, operate and maintain network infrastructures for modern distributed computer systems. Opportunities exist to work with the latest tools and technologies to develop a sound theoretical understanding and gain confidence through practical experience. Students will be supported in developing personal and professional skills enabling graduates to communicate effectively and make a positive contribution in the workplace across a variety of roles and a wide range of organisations.

Students can take industrial examinations such as Cisco, Certified Hacker, Enterprise Architecure, Microsoft and Java certifications and develop valuable personal and professional skills. All students are automatically enrolled as student members of the British Computer Society the chartered body responsible for establishing and maintaining technical and ethical standards in the profession.

The aims of the programme are:

  • to provide students with practical experience in using current generation tools and techniques;
  • to familiarise students with the issues and concerns involved in network implementation and management;
  • to equip students with the skills to deal with the demands of distributed enterprise application development.

Accreditation

This degree is accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS). The programme can lead to full exemption from the BCS Certificate, Diploma, Professional Graduate Diploma (PGD) and PGD Project, as well as partial chartered engineer (CEng) status.

Academic Requirements

UK educational background:

  • 120 UCAS points from A-levels, plus GCSEs at grade C or above in English language and mathematics. 
  • Applications from students taking Access to Higher Education courses are welcome.
Non-educational background:
  • Further to showing equivalent qualifications to UK applicants, international applicants must have successfully completed 11 or 12 years of full time education, and demonstrated competence in mathematics.
  • If you were educated in a language other than English and/or in a country where English speakers are in a minority, you should have a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each skill) or equivalent. If you require a Tier 4 (General) student visa to study in the UK, your score must be from a UK Visas and Immigration approved IELTS test.

    Funding

    Scholarships:

    Greenwich Scholarship Programme -  Available for students who attend programmes where fees are over £6,165 for full-time students and over £4,624 for part-time students 

    Loans: 

    Tuition Fee Loan - Apply, and you could get up to £9,000 each year. This is paid directly to your university or college in three installments throughout the year. You don't have to pay back the loan until you're earning at least £21,000 a year.

    Maintenance Loans – These loans are available to help cover living expenses. The amount you get depends on whether you live with your family, and in or outside London. Loan amounts currently range from £6,704 to £10,702.
