Overview
Cognitive Science at Dartmouth College combines the traditional fields of cognitive and physiological psychology, computer science, philosophy, and linguistics, among others. Topics of focus include perception, memory, reasoning, and language.
Students at Cognitive Science at Dartmouth College will:
- Be eager to work across disciplinary fields creatively to address questions about the mind/brain and mental life of human beings.
- Demonstrate understanding of the methodologies, concepts and theories used by psychologists, philosophers, linguists, computer scientists and cognitive neuroscientists to address questions of mind/brain and information processing.
- Demonstrate competence in the techniques commonly used in the fields that comprise cognitive science, including: Computational tools, Statistical methods, Experimental design and Linguistic analyses.
- Be able to synthesize research findings from two or more disciplines in the cognitive sciences, formulating and evaluating questions involving the mind/brain or information processing.
- Can construct a readable, well-supported research report.
- Be ready for significant scholarly participation in the several fields of cognitive science.
