The Professional Development in Community Engagement course at University of Dundee  has been specifically designed for those involved in community engagement, whether working in public or third sectors or as part of a local partnership. 


The aim of the Professional Development in Community Engagement programme at University of Dundee is to enable participants to develop and enhance professional knowledge and skills in community engagement, community capacity building, collaborative practice and sustainable development, at a time when consultation, partnership and collaborative working are increasingly important in the delivery of public and community-based services.

The course has 2 levels which are matched to the Scottish Credit and Qualifications framework level 8 and 9. Certificate and diploma levels each consist of six 20 credit modules and the degree level consists of four 30 credit modules. 

How you will be taught

This course is delivered through online distance learning, allowing you to continue in employment and study in your own locality. Individualised tutor support via phone and online tutorials, optional study workshops and group tutorials are key features of the course. 


The BA Professional Development course is a work based course designed to widen access to learning from a range of professional contexts including management, administration, further education, community engagement, social work and health, in public, voluntary and private sector agencies. 

As you will be located in work-based contexts, this course will enable you to focus on and progress in your field of expertise and to develop new transferable knowledge, skills and abilities. This enhances continuing professional development, promotion prospects and career development.
