Overview

The programme offers a supportive, friendly and constructive environment, within which students are challenged and enabled to take responsibility for their own learning, to develop their individual profiles and interests, to realise their potential and to achieve their personal, creative, professional and academic goals.

There will be an emphasis on students working towards an industry standard portfolio on the completion of the course; therefore the importance of working with professionals is highlighted. With this in mind, students have numerous opportunities throughout the programme to collaborate with professional photographers. This collaboration also helps to build on the skills required in employment such as communication, time management and organisation.

The college maintains strong links with professionals and suppliers to ensure awareness of current brands, materials and techniques.

The York College Media Make-up team have worked closely with industry links such as ITV Yorkshire and Granada. This has resulted in invaluable work experience opportunities for students on a variety of television productions such as Heartbeat, The Royal, Emmerdale, Countdown, Coronation Street and many others. Students have also had the opportunity to work on films such as ‘Clash of the Titans’ and ‘The King's Speech’.

Networking with local theatre companies, such as York Theatre Royal, Grand Opera House and The Joseph Rowntree Theatre, continues to thrive.
