Communication Sciences, B.Sc.

  • Application Deadline
  • 36 months
The Communication Sciences from Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI) curriculum is structured around four main areas of application – Corporate Communication, Media, Public Communication and Intercultural Communication and Economics – and is based on the integration of several disciplines: humanities, economics, technology, psychology and sociology.

The evolution of digital technologies and social networks increases communication opportunities for relationships, collaborations, democratic participation and value creation. However, more opportunities mean also more risks, to extents unheard of until a decade ago, such as the filtering and manipulation of information, the escalation of conflicts, or the breach of privacy.

As such, studies in Communication Sciences at Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI) are defined by three key concepts that have marked the Faculty since its inception:

  • The integration of a solid education in liberal arts in the organisational and corporate disciplines. Organisations today interact with a wide range of subjects and therefore need to preserve their trust and to engage in a comprehensive dialogue, taking into account not only self-interests but also values and the cultural diversity.
  • The central role of technology to understand and manage communication. Digital media and social networks play a key role in the dynamics that affect the reputation of enterprises and institutions, and they enable new forms of participation for various communities in the creation of value in terms of contents, products and services.
  • The understanding of foreign languages and cultures. Communication creates value especially around languages and cultures, with its ability to spread ideas, mediate conflicts and create opportunities for cooperation.
