Overview

This Youth Athletics and Recreation Management major at Carson-Newman University is designed for students who want to teach physical activity and recreation to children, but do not want to teach Physical Education in schools. Graduates would be well suited as youth activity directors or other children's programing positions. Additionally, graduates will be well suited for a variety of careers in entertainment programming.

Learning Goals:

  • The students will acquire knowledge in teaching, policy, risk management, and programming within the youth recreation and athletics industry.
  • The students will demonstrate effective written, oral, and technological skills necessary for the workforce.
  • The students will acquire administrative, interpersonal, and academic leadership skills to effectively lead in the professions pertaining to youth activity directors or recreation managers.
  • The students will demonstrate critical thinking skills and communication skills to maximize organizational outreach and children’s opportunities.
  • The students will embrace moral, ethical, and biblical values and form sound and well-based judgments.
