The Healthcare Communication program of Avila University will equip students with the tools necessary to design, produce, analyze and evaluate media products, strategies, procedures and content delivery for individuals, organizations, and corporations in the health-related industry.


A significant obstacle for the healthcare professionals is their ability to employ mass communication and social media in order to engage individuals to embrace healthy lifestyle actions. A dedicated Healthcare Communication specialist is prepared to address this challenge.

Whether creating health communication programs for needed populations, contextualizing healthcare issues for legislators or educating patients on their healthcare rights, the healthcare industry is in need of communication professionals able to navigate media messages that will motivate and inform the general public.

Healthcare Communication Careers

The Healthcare Communication program of Avila University is designed for those students who want to work in the health-relevant field, but direct-patient care is not where they want to be. Students who are interested in a career as a Healthcare Communication specialist must be able to: write, publicly present, be creative and flexible, explain ideas in a coherent manner, be a team player and have strong computer, digital media and organizational skills.

Healthcare Communication degrees are growing exponentially at colleges and universities across the United States. Health Communicators work directly with (and often overlap) job duties with Health Educators and Health Information Directors. This partnership develops, implements disseminates health and wellness information to the public and the healthcare community. This collaborative effort cultivates community-based programs that promote health education, as well as develop resources and training for healthcare professionals.
