Overview
There are a few things that make the Accounting program at the Mount unique. The first is the opportunity to pursue both a bachelor's degree in Accounting and a master's degree in Business Administration in just five years. The cost-saving Accounting program of Mount Saint Mary College will put you on the fast track towards success in your career, all while learning from the same professors you'll already know and be comfortable with. Declaring this program will also help students prepare to sit for the CPA exam following graduation.
For those who do not want to pursue the 5-year BS/MBA program, there is also the option to the declare a concentration in Sports Management along with your Accounting major. This unique pairing allows you to really hone in on the field of sports management as it relates to accounting and business.
Finally, Mount Accounting students benefit by learning from seasoned professionals with a combination of knowledge, experience, and a passion for teaching. You'll learn from accountants-turned-professors who are passionate about this field and sharing their knowledge with you. The fact that this major is housed within the School of Business prepares students for a holistic view of the subject.
Careers
Want to gain experience in Accounting before you even get a job offer? The Mount's Career Center can help you find an internship at a variety of organizations to help you build accounting experience. In the past, Mount students have interned at organizations such as KPMG, IBM, RBT CPAs, ADP, Hudson River Housing, New York City Police Department, Judelson Giordano Siegel PC, and more.
After graduation, Mount Accounting majors are prepared for a career in public accounting; corporate, government and not-for-profit accounting; consulting; and graduate study. Graduates of the BS/MBA program are also prepared to take the New York State licensing exam to become a Certified Public Accountant. While many of our alumni choose to work for larger accounting firms, others prefer to work as the in-house accountant at a community organization or even to continue to volunteer with the TaxAide program as a way to give back.
