Learn on a campus full of commercial opportunities and outstanding facilities. Apply theory to practice on our equine yard, which has stabling for over 200 horses including our own loan horses for students to work with. You’ll also gain experience in our equine therapy and rider performance centres, as well as our animal science laboratories.
You’ll develop detailed understanding of the importance of equine health and welfare during the Equine Management (Top-Up) course from Hartpury College. You could choose to explore the anatomy and physiology of a horse, or focus on improving performance by studying the science behind a horse’s response to physical exercise. You could also discover the reasons behind behavioural traits or choose to better understand the practices involved in equine therapy.
An applied research project will allow you to explore a topic of your choice in detail. You’ll evaluate and better understand current industry practices, giving you work-ready skills and knowledge. Guest lecturers with industry and research experience will complement your learning.
Successful completion of this degree will prepare you to move into work within the equine industry or move onto postgraduate study.
You'll benefit from access to horses on our livery yard, as well as our commercial equine therapy and rider performance centres. We'll also encourage you to secure gain experience in industry through voluntary work while you're here. Where appropriate, industry and research-based guest speakers will contribute to your modules.
Career options are diverse. You could move into a range of professional equestrian careers. Graduates have recently progressed into:
- Sponsorship Co-ordinator, Three Counties Showground
- Equine Therapy Centre Manager
