Experiential Learning

You will have two Early Childhood Education classroom placements in the local area. The first placement is typically the first semester of your second year, and the second placement is typically the first semester of your third year.

The early childhood student from Alma College teaching term is 7 weeks long, and is done in either an infant, toddler, or preschool general or special education classroom. You may do your EC student teaching near your hometown (except in the Upper Peninsula).

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 2.75

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.75 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

  • Complete a free Alma College Application online or through the Common Application
  • Transfer Students — Official transcripts, in English, of all college coursework must also be sent directly to Alma from the institutions attended
  • International Student Declaration of Finance Form
  • All international students on F-1 or J-1 visa are required to provide evidence of sufficient finances to support their U.S. education. Sources of funding may be from parents, guardians, or a sponsor.
