Overview

The Web Design and Development program is offered by Jefferson (Philadelphia University and Thomas Jefferson University). Digital technology has changed the way we visualize, conceptualize and express our ideas. Students in the program will focus on a variety of methods of visual and information design for digital platforms and the development of these designs into real products using modern technologies and development practices.

Students learn HTML5/CSS3, JavaScript, SASS, PHP, Ruby, MySQL, Swift, Git, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere, Sketch, Invision, Balsamiq, among other relevant applications and programming languages used in the industry. The culmination of this learning is demonstrated through a student being able to create sophisticated, large-scale digital products, such as websites and apps, meeting client and end-user requirements.

Students will learn to not only design and construct products for today, but also learn to continue their advancement as the technology and requirements of the professional field continues to advance at a rapid pace.

Career

According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics “Employment of computer and information technology occupations is projected to grow 12 percent from 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all occupations. These occupations are expected to add about 488,500 new jobs, from about 3.9 million jobs to about 4.4 million jobs from 2014 to 2024, in part due to a greater emphasis on cloud computing, the collection and storage of big data, more everyday items becoming connected to the Internet in what is commonly referred to as the 'Internet of things,' and the continued demand for mobile computing.

The median annual wage for computer and information technology occupations was $81,430 in May 2015, which was higher than the median annual wage for all occupations of $36,200.”
