About the programme

Students wishing to obtain a B.A. in the Liberal Studies program of Georgia College may pursue one of six multidisciplinary concentrations: Culture; Religion and Society; European Studies, Gender and Sexuality; Race, Ethnicity and Gender; Third World Studies; Individualized Studies. Courses and co-curricular activities emphasize global perspectives and awareness of diversity in historical and contemporary contexts.

Culture, Religion and Society Concentration

Students with a Culture, Religion and Society Concentration select a minimum of 27 hours from courses in African Studies, Anthropology, Arts, Black Studies, English, Geography, History, Music, Philosophy, Political Science, Religion, Sociology and Women’s Studies, with nine of those hours in each of two separate disciplines.

European Studies Concentration

Students with a European Studies Concentration select three hours in the Fine Arts; a maximum of nine hours in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish or Philosophy; and a maximum of nine hours in History or Political Science.

Gender and Sexuality Concentration

Students with a Gender and Sexuality Concentration select 24 hours in courses in Women’s Studies, Kinesiology, Psychology and Sociology.

Individualized Studies Concentration

The Liberal Studies Individualized Concentration is open by admission only.

Race and Social Justice Concentration

Students with a Race and Social Justice Concentration are required to take six hours in Sociology, at least three hours in the Humanities, at least three hours in the Social Sciences, at least three hours in courses related to Gender and at least three hours in History. Additionally, the student’s program of study will include at least one course that addresses issues in each of the following areas: African Studies, African-American Studies, Latin American Studies and Women’s Studies.

Global Studies Concentration

Students with a Global Studies Concentration take nine hours in the Humanities, nine hours in the Social Sciences and six hours in the Fine Arts. Additionally, students are required to take at least one course addressing issues in each of the following regions: South and Central America; Africa; and Asia.
