The Mass Communications curriculum at the Claflin University provides a foundation in mass communication theory that is augmented by practical and professional skills training provided through internship opportunities and practicum courses.


As a student in our program, you will choose from one of three concentrations: Digital Media, Journalism or Public Relations. 

You'll learn how to develop public relations campaigns, conduct investigative reporting or write for online media, all while studying in classrooms equipped for the converging world of digital communications. You will learn from knowledgeable faculty and staff who are actively involved in research and professional media activities.

Student Opportunities and Experience

  • Mass Communications at the Claflin University is more than just a department. It is a community of faculty, staff and students who share a passion for all things media, storytelling and people. 
  • Our student-run media outlets, The Panther newspaper and website, Panther Radio and Panther Television, allow students opportunities and experiences in order to learn their craft. 
  • Digital Media students produce news, sports, films, and television programs. Journalism students report news, sports and features for The Panther newspaper and website.
