1. The Institute of Science and Environment

The Institute’s educational and research expertise extends across many disciplines. We offer top quality undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in a friendly and supportive fashion using modern approaches to learning and teaching. From global warming to crime scene analysis, our world-leading research focuses on today’s key challenges.

2. The Institute of Health and Society

The Institute is a vibrant, inclusive and empowering environment for learning. Partnership is central to our philosophy. Best practice in education is a partnership that is built on mutual respect, challenge and shared learning between educators and students and practice partners where relevant. We pride ourselves on our teaching excellence, applied research and practice development. 

We work closely with our local community and with partners across a wide range of sectors to enhance the student experience and to provide students with an invaluable insight into professional practice.  The Institute comprises four academic units: Psychology, Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedic Science Applied Professional Studies and Health and Applied Social Science. Co-location of these disciplines within one Institute enables us to take a strong interdisciplinary approach to our work. (We also work collaboratively with professionals in other Institutes).

The Institute is committed to playing a leading role in researching and developing innovative and creative solutions in health and wellbeing.  Our research is highly applied to real world issues which provide significant opportunity to impact positively on peoples’ lives, to contribute to the development of practice and to lead and influence policy. Our research covers a wide breadth of disciplines and applications. Results of research are disseminated national and internationally and implemented in practice.

The Institute of Health and Society is highly regarded by students and employers and External Professional, Regulatory and Statutory Bodies who assess our provision extremely positively. Students benefit from well-qualified, creative, enthusiastic, supportive staff and have access to some exceptional learning facilities. The University has invested in excellent skills and simulation facilities to support learning, including a psychology laboratory, skills rooms and our dedicated Ability House.
