Year one involves the study of a range of Science modules, and the subject matter covered in year two of this course includes Chemistry, Analysis of materials, Computing and Microbiological analysis. In year 3, there are further modules in chemistry and a six-month industrial placement.
The Chemical and Pharmaceutical Science programme from the Atlantic Technological University will initiate students to the importance of quality control and quality management in the manufacturing and processing of pharmaceutical and healthcare products. It will improve and extend the supervisory, organisational and managerial potential of students to enable them to obtain well-paid, responsible positions in sectors such as Biomedical, Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology and Research institutes.
Note: There is no need to have studied chemistry for the Leaving Certificate, as the fundamentals of all science subjects are delivered in year one.
Graduates are prepared for employment in the pharmaceutical, biomedical, chemical and food industries and in research institutes. They may also find employment in environmental protection, quality control of starting materials, in-process or finished products.
Many graduates have progressed to employment in supervisory, organisational and managerial capacities within industry and some have obtained employment as technical sales representatives in related industries.
