Electric Power Engineering is a classical branch of industry but with big challenges to face in the future, as it is the management of new power grids with greater integration of renewable energy. These issues are revolutionizing the concepts of generation, transmission, distribution and marketing of electricity, something considered essential for the progress of modern societies.


An Electric Power Engineer must have a solid foundation in the basic math and physics disciplines, advanced knowledge in several branches of industrial engineering, and, specific updated skills in Electrical Engineering, with special emphasis on the use of advanced tools based on new technologies.

The professional career of a graduate in Electric Power Engineering can be wide, but has a profile suitable for the development of projects of electrical facilities (Low and High Voltage), automation, management and maintenance of power plants and electricity infrastructure, control of electrical machines ...

A graduate in Electric Power Engineering from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, is authorized to practice the regulated profession of Industrial Technical Engineer, fulfilling the responsibilities assigned in the Spanish Ministerial Order CIN / 351/2009.

Students from the Degree in Electric Power Engineering at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid will have:

  • Modern facilities: Well-equipped labs and a library with access to the main sources of information.
  • Highly qualified professors: Supervisors of subjects in this degree are required to have a PhD or/and professional experience in industry for more than 3 years.   • Professional internships: Among optional subjects, students can choose doing 6 credits of practical training. The aim of this course is to provide appropriate practical experience useful for their first job. In the case of the Degree in Electric Power Engineering, students can do internships in public and private companies of different sizes, and  there are agreements with the most important utilities in the energy sector.
  • Bilingual studies: Students who pass the English language entrance exam, can do more than 50% of their studies in English if they wish.
  • International mobility: The degree offers positions to do stages in different European (financed by the EU-ERASMUS program) and non-European universities.
  • High employment rate: As a result of this academic profile, the rate of insertion of the first graduates in Electric Power Engineering during their first year (2012/2013) in the labour market was 86.7% (according to the study conducted by the Foundation Universidad Carlos III de Madrid in collaboration with Accenture). In addition, 84.6% of graduates felt that their work had a lot, or some affinity with their studies.

                                                Academic Requirements

                                                The student must have a solid prior education, particularly in mathematics, chemistry, physics and graphical representation. Observational and analytical skills, capacity and speed in mathematical calculations and quantifiable problem solving, as well as logical and abstract reasoning are also very important. Moreover, it is advisable to possess the capability to establish relationships between observable reality and its description through mathematical models.

                                                Aids for relocation and new installation

                                                Grants for students with good transcript of records and family residence outside Madrid and more than 100 km from the UC3M campus where enrol , with a unique endowment of € 1,800.

                                                Application deadline: from June 17  to July  4.

                                                Spanish Ministry of Education grants

                                                Aid for cover the tuition fees for prospective students with an entrance grade equal to, or exceeding  5,5.
                                                Aid for incomes and housing for prospective students with an entrance grade equal to, or exceeding 6,5. The amount will be of up to 3000 €.
