The Drama major at Spelman College is divided into four areas: the Core; Literature, History and Criticism; Performance; and Technical Theatre/Management. Students majoring in theater & performance are required to take all of the courses offered in the core including four semesters of Production Lab and two department electives.

All majors are expected to participate fully in the life of the department by either performing in or doing back-stage work in at least four productions.

The audition process provides invaluable learning opportunities. Therefore, students are required to attend general auditions at the beginning of each academic year and to audition for each departmental production to gain auditioning experience.Students on the Drama program from Spelman College are encouraged to participate in at least one internship during their time in the department.

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
