Overview

Our professors teach all classes and labs, and their interests span a range of topics, from petrology to volcanology. Students have access to state-of-the-art equipment as well as extensive collections of minerals, rocks and fossils, and topographic and geologic maps.

With Geology as your major from Union College, the entire planet is your field of exploration. Through faculty-student research, our students have traveled to the Andes Mountains, Newfoundland, New Zealand, the Olympic Mountains of Washington state, New England and other areas of the globe.

Other Learning Opportunities

  • Union is a member of the Keck Geology Consortium, a multi-college collaboration that provides research opportunities every summer.
  • Our students regularly present their research at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research, at Union's Steinmetz Symposium, and they also present at regional, national and international professional conferences. Many students are co-authors on papers that are published in scientific journals.

  • Apply online using the Common Application or the Coalition Application.
  • Union is SAT/ACT optional 
  • TOEFL, IELTS or the Duolingo English Test is required for all applicants whose first language is not English.
  • Interviews are required for all Chinese and Vietnamese citizens and are recommended for all applicants.
  • CSS Profile and Financial Forms are required for all those applying for need-based financial aid.
  • Other requirements: Essay (part of the online application), Official Secondary School Transcripts/Exam Scores, Teacher and Counselor Recommendation Letters.
