Since 1973, the General Studies program at Eastern Illinois University has been serving adult learners in Illinois, helping them meet their goal of earning a bachelor's degree. Technology has allowed us to expand beyond Illinois, by offering this adult focused degree-completion program completely online.

Overview

Transfer Flexibility

The General Studies program at Eastern Illinois University can accept up to 100 semester hours in transfer from regionally accredited colleges and universities, including as many as 78 hour earned at a community college, as well as credits earned through military training. These hours will be applied to meeting graduation criteria where appropriate.

The flexibility doesn't end with your undergraduate studies, either; more than 40 percent of our graduates continue their education by enrolling in graduate programs at EIU and other universities.

Classes are offered online, on-campus, at Parkland College and various locations throughout the Chicagoland area. Because adults learn a great deal outside the traditional classroom, we offer the opportunity to earn credit for on-the-job-training and other experiences.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 2.5

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.5 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

  • A completed International Student Financial Affidavit Form, documenting sufficient funding for the intended program of study
