Students who major in history through one of our five degree programs take a wide range of history courses. Their courses both in history and geography as well as the other required classes across the university prepare students for careers that involve research, critical thinking and problem solving. Historians can see the big picture, organize large amounts of data and explain what it means to a wide audience. These skills are very useful in a wide variety of careers and fields. Those who opt to take the History-Social Science Pre-Licensure track take courses in secondary education as well as history, political science and geography to earn their license to teach secondary school social studies in Virginia.
