The Film and Media Studies program offered by Saint Xavier University is an interdisciplinary academic program that integrates film and media theory with creative digital production. In our media saturated world, it is of vital importance to understand how cultural and aesthetic forms provide entertainment and information.

About the program

The Film and Media Studies program offered by Saint Xavier University offers students an opportunity to explore film, television and electronic media as important art forms and cultural phenomena.

Film and Media Studies Major

The Film and Media Studies major provides students with an interdisciplinary understanding of the history, theory and socio-cultural aspects of media, alongside artistic production and digital multi-media skills. In the FAMS program, students create an individualized program of study by choosing one of two concentrations: media production that emphasizes experiential learning in media creation or media analysis that focuses on media history and theory.

The FAMS capstone gives students the opportunity to bring together critical and creative approaches to develop a project in their area of interest, that range in form from screenplays, films, multi-media presentations, curated events and scholarly essays.
