Overview
The Computer Information Systems program of Stetson University is designed for students looking to develop a technical background in computer science and apply it in a business environment.
With a major in computer information systems, you will complete a strong core of computer science courses, as well as selected courses in the School of Business Administration. You may choose electives from either and will receive a bachelor of science degree upon graduation. Computer information systems majors often choose to add a minor in business administration to their degree program.
By choosing to major in computer information systems, you can develop expertise in systems analysis, software development and software engineering, web application development, networking, database development or computer security. Our department provides an emphasis on both theory and application of new computer technologies and encourages a hands-on experience, both in and out of the classroom. Computer information systems majors are also encouraged to pursue internships and may receive course credit for the successful completion of an internship.
Career Outlook
- Although we might think of Network Systems within this degree program, the bulk of demand for graduates will be in software, web development, and system and security analytics. Demand is strong across all of the technology sectors, and salary levels in most occupations reflect that strength. Experience or background in Java or big-data management might lead to better salaries, while C++ will give candidates a competitive edge.
