About

With programs that vary in length and concentration, the WKU Department of Art supports and challenges students along a variety of life-enriching paths. The BFA degree in studio art or graphics is a comprehensive, focused program for students interested in pursuing a professional creative career. Our range of BA programs in art education, art history, and studio art introduce our students to a variety of career paths that benefit from studies in the visual arts.

Whatever path you choose, you will be working with energetic art professionals who have gained national and international recognition in their respective fields. Our faculty introduce students to a world of art by hosting visiting professionals, traveling with students to conferences and exhibitions, and leading study-abroad programs around the globe.

Students pursuing a BFA may choose a concentration in Graphic Design or Studio. Students in the BA studio concentrations may choose from ceramics, graphic design, painting, printmaking, sculpture or weaving.

                The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00.                 PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is a language test that enables students to demonstrate their writing, listening, speaking, and reading skills when applying to study in English. Delivered and marked by computer, it reports on a scale between 10 and 90.

              Academic Requirements

              You need the following GPA score:

              Required score: 2.5

              Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.5 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

              Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

              INTERNATIONAL ADMISSION CHECKLIST:

              • $75 non-refundable application fee
              • Official Academic Records from schools attended with grades and any degrees/diplomas/certificates received.  Should also include a literal English translation.

              • Students transferring from within the US will need to fill out the Transfer-In Form
              • All necessary documents, including academic records, and proof of English language proficiency, must be received before an admission decision can be made.

              International students must also provide financial evidence of support in order to obtain an I-20.
