Overview
Areas of concentration include American government, comparative government and politics, international relations, public administration and political theory. Southeast's Political Science majors regularly intern with local, state and federal elected officials.
Graduates of the Political Science program of the Southeast Missouri State University are employed in government and nonprofit administration, law, international affairs, political campaigns, lobbying and interest groups, journalism and media, academic research and teaching and are accepted to leading graduate schools.
Exceptionally well qualified faculty members work closely with students in small class settings, challenging students to think systematically about national and international politics.
Political Science graduates work in political, financial, sales, marketing, and communication fields. Examples of job titles include public policy analyst, public administrator, lawyer, lobbyist, campaign manager, human resource specialist, politician, immigration officer, researcher and legislative assistant.

- Successful completion of Level 5 of Southeast’s IEP.
- English proficiency tests
- Diploma from a U.S. high school
- Diploma from an international school with U.S. regional accreditation
- Diploma from IB curriculum school whose sole medium of instruction is English
- Diploma from a non-U.S. high school/secondary education where English language is the sole medium of instruction.
- SAT test score of 450 or higher on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section.
- A score of 21 or better Combined English/Writing score on the ACT Plus Writing test
- Successful completion of Level 112 in the ELS Language School
- Other proof of English proficiency may be considered on an individual basis.
