After graduation of the Nursing programme  Savonia University of Applied Sciences you will be an expert in nursing patients and have an ability to apply your knowledge and skills when solving complex and unpredictable nursing problems.

During your studies you will learn to be in charge of professional work or projects as well as to work in expert jobs in the field of nursing.  You will also learn to assess your own skills and the skills and development of other people and teams. You will be able to apply, assess and analyse your nursing skills in different situations. You will also be able to coordinate the work and to work independently as a nursing expert both in your home country and abroad.  You will be prepared for lifelong learning and have the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with different audiences in and outside the field of nursing. You will also have good communication skills both in Swedish and in English.


You can work as a nursing expert eg at health clinics, in hospital wards and home care services. In addition, care and health care companies, special health care outpatient clinics, wards and operating theatres as well as mental health clinics can be your future employers. You can also have an international career or become an entrepreneur.

Programme Structure


  • During the first year of your studies you will learn to observe a human being as a psychophysical entity and you will learn the basics of nursing. You will learn to use the nursing values and principles to enhance health and functional ability as well as in nursing medical patients
  • During the second year you will learn to use evidence-based information in the medication of the most common diseases and in perioperative nursing

  • During the third year you can apply and analyse information on ageing and the clients’ needs and you can implement nursing in different environments

  • During the final year of your studies you will be able to apply, assess and analyse your nursing skills in different fields, to coordinate your work and to work independently as a nursing expert in an international environment

General Requirements

Eligibility to apply for higher education studies can be obtained with:

  • a foreign degree or qualification which gives eligibility for higher education in the awarding country (e.g. a high school diploma, an upper general certificate of education, a higher secondary school certificate).

The qualification must be completed by the end of the application period.

Student selection of Nursing is based on the pretask and the interview. Applicants must pass all the parts of the examination in order to be selected for admission.

Structure of the entrance exam:

The living costs include the total expenses per month, covering accommodation, public transportation, utilities (electricity, internet), books and groceries.


In the first academic year all students who are obligated to pay the tuition fee will automatically get the scholarship, which covers 70% of the tuition fee. In the following academic years the scholarship covers 50% of the tuition fee and to qualify for the scholarship Bachelor student must complete at least 55 credits by 31 July.
