Creating content, establishing contacts and maintaining connections with an ever-changing audience is the key to working in today’s media industry. Southeast’s Department of Mass Media prepares students to enter this fast-paced field through a combination of innovative curriculum design, access to dedicated faculty who successfully combine both professional skill sets and academic credentials.

Overview

Students select from one of four options to specialize in: advertising, multimedia journalism, public relations, or TV/film.What you'll do: 

  •  Produce news and informational programming that will be broadcast on the local CBS and FOX affiliates in the 81st DMA.
  • Write screenplays and create short films that can be entered into Southeast’s Fault Line Film Festival.
  • Be active members of the Media Communication Association-International and attend the annual meeting of the National Association of Broadcasters in Las Vegas.
  • Write, shoot and edit news and informational and public affairs programming.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 2

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
