The program brings together highly qualified faculty and interested students from different departments of the university. Corporations need employees who understand Asia and its rapidly developing economy. The program draws on multiple disciplines to prepare students with a variety of goals for a rewarding career.

To meet the growing demand in New Jersey school districts for certified teachers of Chinese, William Paterson University offers an accelerated Chinese language teacher preparation program. Within one year, students who successfully complete this program will be qualified for a certificate of eligibility and earn a second BA in Asian studies-Chinese language track. The 30-credit curriculum provides state approved courses in Chinese language, pedagogy, methodology, and literature, offered in evening, weekend, and online format, convenient for the working professional. The accelerated Chinese language teacher preparation program is ideal for heritage or native speakers of Mandarin Chinese who currently hold a BA degree and who seek a career in teaching world language in New Jersey schools. Partial scholarships may be available.
