Why study the Physics program from John Carroll University

Our mission is to provide students with a firm grounding in the disciplines of physics and/or engineering physics within the context of a traditional liberal arts education. We provide a curriculum that will prepare you for graduate study or professional life, even a career you may not have thought of!

The department also supports the other science majors, and contributes to the liberal arts core through appropriate courses for non-science students. We encourage contributions to the body of knowledge of the physics discipline by faculty and students through a supportive work environment.

Every academic year the department hosts a speaker series with visiting guests speaking on various topics pertaining to physics. These sessions are free and open to the public.

At John Carroll, you will get an excellent scientific and technical education in a liberal arts environment that will prepare you for almost any career path.

The Physics Department curriculum at JCU is built around a common core of foundational science and mathematics courses with a selection of upper division electives that gives you the flexibility to design a degree fitting for many career goals. Below, we outline the different degrees offered by the department, along with sample semester-by-semester course plans. Refer to the Undergraduate Bulletin page 352 for more detailed information on physics and engineering classes offered and the requirements for the B.S. and B.A. degrees.
