Overview
We offer a bachelor degree in Philosophy at the Adelphi University. You will also have the opportunity to broaden your perspective on contemporary issues through electives in philosophy of law, religion, science, bioethics, political philosophy, non-Western philosophy and many other topics.
Given the interdisciplinary nature of philosophy, students often combine a BA in Philosophy with a second major. Popular double majors combine philosophy and either psychology, English, political science or the natural sciences.
If you are considering graduate and professional schools, students with philosophy degrees have been shown to perform better on standard admission tests, including the LSAT, GMAT and the GRE.
Benefits of the BA in Philosophy Program
- The following statistics were generated from data collected over the previous 18 years by the National Institute of Education:
- Philosophy majors received higher scores on the LSAT than students in all other humanities areas, higher scores than all social and natural science majors except economics and mathematics, and higher scores than all applied majors.
- Philosophy majors scored 10 percent better than political science majors on the LSAT.
- Philosophy majors outperformed business majors by a margin of 15 percent on the GMAT and outperformed every other undergraduate major except mathematics.
