Overview
At Gettysburg College, we don't prepare teachers to be certified in "the STEM fields," per se; very few such programs actually exist. What we do try to do, however, is encourage deep knowledge of a chosen discipline (biology, chemistry, or physics), with an aim of using that knowledge to develop interdisciplinary understanding of the problems of everyday living.
Learning Outcomes
- The Teaching Science program of Gettysburg College aims to prepare reflective, empathetic teacher—leaders who facilitate student inquiry from democratic and critical—multicultural perspectives, help students relate concepts and skills learned in school to their own lives, and foster social, cognitive and emotional growth for all students.
- The teachers we prepare are knowledgeable, passionate about education, value the arts, and work consistently to improve their teaching through the integration of theory and practice.
