The Traditional Mathematics Concentration with Licensure is intended to prepare students to teach math at secondary schools in Virginia in four years. This requires classes in both mathematics and also professional education, but it also includes extracurricular requirements to be admitted to the Teacher Education Program.

Overview

Students gain a solid grounding in mathematics and use computational tools where appropriate. Our faculty is large enough to offer the student a variey of opportunities to work in different fields yet small enough that students can interact on a personal level and have the teachers know them well. We also have an internal honors program that allows our best students to take some courses at a more sophisticated level.

Funding

Loans:

  • William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan: Freshman are eligible to borrow up to $5500 in Direct Loan funds, with no more than $3500 in Subsidized funds
  • Federal Perkins Loan: $5,500 for each year of undergraduate study. The total amount you can borrow as an undergraduate is $27,500. $8000 for each year of graduate or professional study. The total amount you can borrow as a graduate/professional student is $60,000.
  • Federal Graduate PLUS Loan: Students can borrow up to the financial aid cost of attendance for the academic year.
