Students seeking professional portfolios will pursue the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (BFA). This degree allows for a special concentration in a particular field such as ceramics, painting, printmaking, graphic design, imaging arts, or sculpture. 

About

The program permits the candidate to take a greater number of classes in studio art and art history. Entrance into the B.F.A. program is by application and competitive review. All B.F.A. candidates must pass a portfolio entrance review (the B.F.A. interview) after completing at least 18 and no more than 27 semester hours of art.

The Department of Art offers a minor and the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in art history and a minor, Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.), and Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in art. The B.A. degree is offered for students who wish to major in art as part of a liberal arts education. The B.F.A. degree is offered to qualifying students who seek a more intensive studio art program as a professional degree or as preparation for graduate study. Entrance into the B.F.A. program is by application and competitive review, typically taking place during the fourth semester of enrollment. Students may concentrate in ceramics, graphic design, imaging arts (photography and digital arts), painting, printmaking, or sculpture. For the M.F.A. in art, students complete an emphasis in ceramics, painting, printmaking, or sculpture.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

Funding

The University of Mississippi has many scholarships that have been made available through the generous donations of alumni and friends of the university.  If you wish to be considered for scholarships, you must file a University of Mississippi Admission Application, and submit an online Special Programs & Scholarships Application . This application should be completed for the priority deadline of January 5th with a final deadline of February 15. Some scholarships may require separate applications, such as, Honor’s, Croft, School of Business, School of Engineering, and Pharmacy.

Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for any need-based awards.
