The Sculpture and Integrated Practices Curriculum at Pratt Institute is built around core studio and elective courses that investigate diverse conceptual approaches, mediums, and processes. Pratt Institute students have access to extensive Wood, Metal, and Ceramic studios/shops as well as advanced digital and alternative mediums.

Learning outcomes

The curriculum builds progressively toward mastery of concepts, processes, and tools so that by the senior year, students are working independently in their own studios, developing their most advanced work within a course structure of public presentations, individual, and group critiques. The graduation year culminates in a B.F.A. Thesis exhibition on the Pratt Campus that is open to the public.

New York’s vital art scene is incorporated into the curriculum and offers students a dynamic environment for inspiring their work. Visiting artists and critics bring a dynamic addition to studio learning through public lectures as well as individual and group critiques.

Pratt’s Fine Art faculty are active in the New York art world and have received recognition from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, the Tiffany Foundation, Creative Capital, and Art Matters. Alumni of Pratt’s sculpture program are accepted to leading MFA programs including Yale’s School of Art, Columbia University, Cal Arts, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Slade School in London. Students and alumni participate in selective artist residencies at Skowhegan, Yale Norfolk, Oxbow, and the Vermont Studio Center.
