About

Sociology at Emporia State University is the scientific study of human behavior. Sociologists seek to understand how people interact with each other, how groups and societies differ, and how all these various social units affect human behavior on an individual and collective basis.

Overview

Sociology study of the various areas in sociology helps us better understand why people behave similarly to each other as well as differently.

At Emporia State University, you may earn either a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Sociology or Crime and Delinquency Studies. Minors are available in Sociology, Crime and Delinquency Studies, and Anthropology. Sociologists are found in a number of careers. You can work in a number of business-related professions. For example, an automobile manufacturer may want to relocate a factory.

They might employ a sociologist to study the impact of that move on the affected communities, as well as the impact on the company's workers. Sociologists are also found in counseling roles, corrections, and in investigative bureaus such as the F.B.I.
