Overview

The purpose of the Health Education and Promotion program is to prepare students to work in the field of public health. Students will have an opportunity to work with nationally known faculty, participate in student research, and travel to professional conferences. Graduates of our program receive the prerequisite knowledge and skills necessary to sit for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) exam.

Southeastern's Health Education and Promotion program trains health education and promotion specialists with the skills and competencies to exhibit leadership in developing effective health education and promotion programs throughout the state. Students are prepared to make major contributions in improving the health of individuals and communities in Louisiana and beyond.

General Requirements

To be eligible for full admission to Southeastern, international beginning freshmen students must meet ALL of the following criteria:Must have completed a recognized secondary school program with a minimum Grade Point Average of 2.35.Must have taken the TOEFL or IELTS *:
  • Minimum IELTS score required - 6.0 overall band
  • Minimum TOEFL scores required - 500 paper-based, 173 computer-based, and 61 internet based
  • Minimum TOEFL scores required - 500 paper-based, 173 computer-based, and 61 internet based 
Must have taken the ACT or SAT:
  • Minimum Verbal SAT of 450 or minimum 460 in Math (old format)
  • Minimum Writing and Language of 25 or 500 in Math (new format
