Overview
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) at Butler University attracts the kinds of students who are never satisfied with the status quo. Our quest for knowledge is both timeless and modern.
We immerse students in the oldest teachings, but also the latest learnings in culture and language, science and technology, psychology and philosophy. In all disciplines, we incorporate research, encouraging students to question everything and meticulously test new theories. Communication is emphasized, teaching students to negotiate, debate, and effectively disseminate information.
LAS students are committed to being thoughtful practitioners of whatever field they choose, resulting in graduates who are engaged in their careers, active in their communities, and continually learning and leading.
A well rounded experience
This major—offered by one of the nation’s only joint History and Anthropology departments—will allow you to specialize in two related fields, as combined majors draw on the knowledge and opportunities afforded by two academic departments and fields of study. You will gain access to hands-on participation in research in both departments, and small class sizes allow for direct contact with both departments’ faculty. In addition, the city of Indianapolis boasts a variety of local museums, service organizations, and more, providing access to internships, service learning, and research opportunities.
