The field of religious studies explores religious beliefs, behaviors and institutions across cultures. It is a journey through the liberal arts that combines the study of philosophy, literature, history, sociology and fine arts. The Religious Studies bachelor program is offered by Manhattan College.

Religion is a vital force in the human experience. It is exciting and energetic, powerful and persistent. Through the scope of religion, we examine human beings in their most intimate and challenging moments.

At Manhattan College, Religious Studies is built into the core curriculum. Every student, regardless of school or major, takes three religious studies courses, starting with The Nature and Experience of Religion. Typically, in your second year, you take a course focused on Catholicism, and in your third or fourth year, a religious studies course that focuses on global studies or contemporary issues. 

The study of religion is crucial because it help us:

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 3.4

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3.4 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

  • 1. Official High School Transcript
  • 2. SAT and/or ACT Scores: Critical reading and math sections of the SAT are reviewed during the admissions process.
  • 3. Recommendation Letter: One letter of recommendation from a teacher or guidance counselor is required. You may submit up to three academic letters. 
  • 4. Personal Essay: You must submit a brief personal statement or college essay. This essay should be roughly 500 words.
  • 5. $75 Non-Refundable Application Fee
  • 6.International students whose native language is not English must provide proof of English proficiency by submitting official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)  or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores.
