Program Highlights
Student Teaching: In the Secondary Education program of Lock Haven University you will student teach at two different sites (7 weeks in a middle school and 7 weeks in a high school). You will likely have a choice of urban, rural, or suburban schools. You are also encouraged to student teach abroad at any of our partner universities.
Careers: The current retirement rate of “baby boom” generation teachers is creating a high demand for teachers at all levels. As a graduate of LHU’s secondary education program, you will be prepared to teach in middle, junior, and senior high grades 7-12. Demand is high for Math and Science teachers (specifically Physics and Chemistry) and for secondary education teachers with a dual degree in special education throughout the country, particularly in rural and inner city districts.

You need the following GPA score:
Required score: 3.2
Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3.2 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

- A non-refundable application fee of $25.00 (twenty five dollars U.S.) must be paid.
- Submit official, English-translated copies of all secondary course work completed, including subjects listed and marks earned, secondary school certificates, diplomas and examinations results from all secondary, post-secondary, and university and/or professional schools.
- All non-native speakers of English must submit an official language score report. To be considered "official," the scores must be sent directly from the sending institution (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.).
