Overview
At our department you will learn everything an English teacher needs to know: something about English itself, something about the literature, history and culture of English-speaking countries, but above all how to pass it on to future students in a modern, creative and effective way.
We place great emphasis on the practical dimension of the studies, which is why we already include compulsory teaching practice in real schools in the Bachelor's degree. The English Language for Education programme from Masaryk University will also prepare you for our follow-up Master's programme in Lower Secondary School English Language Teacher Training and will enable you to become a fully-fledged, professional and versatile English teacher – which is needed these days at all levels of schools. Study with us and you will not get lost in the globalized world!
The Department of English Language and Literature is known for its friendly environment, excellent relationships between educators and students, lively community life, and, last but not least, a range of non-educational activities such as the FAME choir or our popular intensive language and methodical course, which uses elements of experiential pedagogy. We greatly support study stays abroad, where students can gain insight and valuable experience at other universities (within Erasmus + and other programmes) - in Spain, the UK, Denmark, Sweden and elsewhere.
Career opportunities
As a graduate of our Bachelor’s programme you will be qualified to work as teaching assistants, and you can also work as English language teachers at language schools and on courses or as instructors in free-time centres. You can also work in various companies and institutions.
In addition to this career path, you can also take the path of further studies and continue in the follow-up Master's programme in Lower Secondary School English Language Teacher Training to become a fully qualified teacher.
Apart from the necessary knowledge and skills, we strive to develop the basic attitudes and values of students so that they become active, responsible and independent members of their professional group and of society.
