Programme Structure

Phase 1:

  • Phase 1 is taught via a series of systems-based modules which introduce the basic biological sciences and address key topics, including the normal structure and function of cells, organs and body systems, the effect of illness on people and their families and the impact of environmental and social factors on health. 
Phase 2:
  • Students are introduced to clinical medicine through a series of placements in our associated teaching hospitals and community placements in Malta and Gozo. In addition, they regularly return to the medical school for teaching weeks and assessments. 

Phase 3:

  • The final year of the programme provides students with clinical and community placements, practical skills and first-hand experience of the working life of an FY1 doctor. The core curriculum in weeks 1-29 take place in the Malta islands. In the remaining weeks of the programme, students carry out their electives and Student Assistantship.

General Requirements

  • All students for the MBBS programme must be at least 18 years old at the start of the course.
  • All candidates for medicine must undertake the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT).
  • A in Chemistry or Biology
  • A in another Science or Maths (Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or Maths)
  • B in any A level except Critical Thinking or General Studies

Work Experience

Voluntary work experience in a caring/health environment and/or observation in a medical clinical setting.
