The Biomedical Science (Hons) programme Keele University   will integrate human physiology, biochemistry, pathology, immunology, neuroscience, and molecular and cell biology, benefiting from research-led teaching. Your degree will be accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science and the Royal Society of Biology, assuring you of the quality of the programme as preparation for a career in Pathology.

You may be eligible to engage in a placement opportunity which may include a one year work placement or a summer’s research in the UK or abroad.

Your Biomedical Science degree from Keele will prepare you to work in high-tech hospital laboratories in the NHS or private sector, but you might also work in consultancy, research, education or management. You might work as a biomedical scientist in the haematology, clinical biochemistry, clinical immunology, microbiology or histopathology sections of Pathology. Alternatively, you might branch out into patent law, medical sales or teaching or build on your Biomedical Science degree to study for other healthcare professional careers such as medicine. Doing a placement as part of a degree will add invaluable work experience on your CV.


The Biomedical Science course is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology and the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS).

  • 32 points to include Higher Level Science subject at 6 or above.

Access to HE Diploma Requirements

  • Obtain Access to Higher Education Diploma with 30 Level 3 credits at Distinction and 15 L3 credits at Merit. You must also have taken sufficient Science credits, please contact us for advice.
