Overview

On completing our course at UWS, you will be able to register as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

English Language Requirements

  • Minimum required score:

    The TOEFL iBT ® measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. The test has four sections (reading, listening, speaking, and writing), each with a score range of 0-30, for a total score range of 0-120.

    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00. The minimum IELTS score requirement refers to which Overall Band Score you received, which is your combined average score. Read more about IELTS.

General Requirements

  • Scottish Highers: BBC (or BC plus UWS ‘First Steps into Nursing’), or equivalent, or 75 UCAS Tariff points plus English and Maths at National 5 / Intermediate 2 / Standard Grade credit level (2 or above)
  • A levels: BC or 72 UCAS Tariff points plus GCSEs English Language or English Literature and Maths
  • Irish Leaving Certificate: H3 H3 H4 plus English and Maths at Ordinary Level 
  • Scottish Wider Access Programme: Access to Nursing BBB 
  • SQA HNC / BTEC Level 4 HNC: Care and Administrative Practice preferred although any HNC will be considered plus Maths at National 5 / Intermediate 2 / Standard Grade credit level (2 or above) or equivalent
