About

Objectives and Attainment Targets of the Study Programme

  • Students develop knowledge through the interaction between education and research within relevant disciplines;

The lecturers who will be involved in the education programs will all be engaged in research activities which are closely related to the courses they teach. By definition, students will be exposed to the state of the art within their particular fields of research. The interaction between education and research will be further guaranteed by practical training. In the majority of the courses a large portion of contact hours will be dedicated to practicals. In the third and fourth bachelor years the lecturers and practicals will be merged into integrated practicals. This arrangement assures even more interaction between education and research.

  • The curriculum ties in with developments in the relevant academic discipline(s) by demonstrable links with current academic theories;

The lecturers who will be involved in the education programs will all be engaged in research activities which are closely related to the courses they teach. This means that the educational programs will constantly be brought up to date and keep abreast of the developments in the different research fields. In addition, the Ghent Universities faculties involved will act in an advisory capacity concerning the establishment and the modification of programs so as to make sure that the programs tie in with current academic theory and praxis. Finally, Ghent University assures the topicality and relevance of the curriculum by deploying some of its most esteemed and scientifically distinguished staff members from the home campus as “flying faculty” at the branch campus.

  • The curriculum safeguards the development of skills in the field of research;

In a majority of the courses students will be getting practicals. These are independent learning situations in which the students themselves actively acquire and/or practice specific research skills. These practicals will be evaluated by a report. Specific to a report, in contrast to an assignment, is that it is not the end-result itself that is important, but rather the process that the students go through in order to arrive at this result.

  • When appropriate, the curriculum has demonstrable links with the current practice of relevant professions.

The Food Technology programme is offered by the Ghent University.
