Bachelor students of the Bachelor of Science at École Polytechnique get to not only learn concepts, but also experiment them spending time in École Polytechnique cutting-edge Research Center, working in the labs on real problems currently tackled by our scientists. Whichever specialization students choose, they have to do a Bachelor Thesis, carried out in the form of a research project. 

Students thus get to spend time in the lab, where they are interacting with scientists and get a feel of the day-to-day routine of PhD students, post-docs, technicians and prominent researchers. Students are also offered regular scientific conferences and seminars on current research themes as well as laboratory visits.

Application Procedure

Applications to the Bachelor Program are available through our online application system. Applicants must submit a number of supporting documents including official transcripts, a personal statement, contact details for two referents, etc. Shortlisted applicants receive an invitation for an interview, which will be conducted remotely (videoconference). The interview will last around 50 minutes and will be conducted entirely in English. Please read the information on our website and follow the guidelines to successfully complete your application.


To accommodate high school calendars from all over the world, there are three rounds of applications, with the first one starting in October.

IMPORTANT: Applicants can only apply once per academic year.

And After Graduation?

The primary purpose of the Bachelor program is to open the doors of various Master’s and graduate degree programs, at École Polytechnique or other major institutions worldwide.

Students receive support and coaching to further pursue their studies in the domains of their dream, such as cryptography, Big Data, astrophysics, mechanics, robotics, finances, energy management, nanotechnologies, monetary policy, development economics, business strategy, materials chemistry, biotechnology…

Programme Structure

The first year of studies focuses on the acquisition of the fundamental skills and knowledge needed for the rest of the students' academic career. They have Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics and Physics classes, with several scientific options offered to help them make the right choice for their double major.

For their second and third years, students choose between three double majors:

  • Double Major in Mathematics and Computer Science
  • Double Major in Mathematics and Economics
  • Double Major in Mathematics and Physics

English Language Requirements

This programme may require students to demonstrate proficiency in English.

General Requirements

To be able to apply, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Currently be studying for a high school leaving certificate, recognized either internationally or in the candidate's home country (French Baccalaureate, OIB, International Baccalaureate, Swiss high-school maturité certificate, European high-school certificate…)
  • Or, currently be studying for a scientific university entrance certificate
  • Or, have already obtained an entrance certificate to study science at a higher education institution (scientific university, specialized institute, French preparatory class…)

In addition to meeting the general admission requirements, applicants should also meet the following specific requirements:

  • Have an overall strong academic average
  • Take advanced mathematics courses, and at least one advanced science course
  • Have a level of English sufficient to successfully complete this Program (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages level C1)

The living costs include the total expenses per month, covering accommodation, public transportation, utilities (electricity, internet), books and groceries.


The École Polytechnique Foundation offers a limited number of Excellence Scholarships based on academic excellence to help us attract and reward the very best students worldwide. In the first year, Excellence Scholarships are reserved for students who are admitted with honors. 

They amount to €4,000 per year paid in 10 monthly installments. The Excellence Scholarship’s renewal is subject to academic success and attendance in the Program. At the end of the first year, additional Excellence Scholarships are awarded to students who have achieved outstanding academic results while also contributing to student life and activities on campus.
