This well-established and creative programme is aimed at individuals who would like to develop a detailed understanding of Graphic Design and Advertising through real assignment-based projects at The Manchester College. 


Offering full tutor contact working in a nurturing studio based environment you will connect with tutors, guest speakers, industry practitioners and companies. This Graphic Design and Advertising course at The Manchester College is well suited to students progressing from National Diplomas or A-Levels, strong emphasis is placed on typography and composition (within Graphics) and development of creative ideas (within Advertising) and the relationship between the two. 

Learning outcomes

Tutors have industry experience and contacts bringing live briefs and real clients for students to create work for. A series of guest lectures show current work and discuss their career paths in the industry. Established industry connections include digital and branding agencies Amaze, Ahoy and Studio North and live clients have included projects with Mercedes, BBC and Manchester Literature Festival Comedy Slam Champion Tony Walsh. Placements include: True North, Purpose, BBC, RingSpun, Winning Pitch, Media Com, The Media Centre, Belly Button Designs, The Fashion Network, Design By Day, Sharp Futures.

General requirements

  • Applicants are required to have an A Level, a BTEC Level 3 National Diploma/Extended Diploma with Merit, Pass, Pass or a BTEC Level 3 National Certificate/Extended Certificate with Merit, Merit in an art/design related subject area, or an equivalent level 3 qualification with appropriate content.
  • Minimum UCAS tariff points required: 64 Qualifications should be accompanied by a portfolio of creative work. Mature applicants (aged 21 or over) who are able to demonstrate relevant skills or knowledge gained in employment or vocational activity may also apply.
