The Documentary Media Studies program from The New School provides an opportunity to study documentary filmmaking—production and theory—in a small, tightly focused program in New York City, the world's documentary capital. This is a full-time, daytime, intensive one-year curriculum.

About

The program culminates in a student documentary festival, Truth Be Told, at the end of each school year, at which certificate students' films are publicly screened and discussed by the filmmakers and faculty.

Certificate holders are qualified to enter documentary media professions as editors, field producers, cinematographers, directors, researchers, and through industry positions in media distribution, museum programming, festival organization, and broadcast productions.

They can also continue graduate school in pursuit of an MA, MS and/or PhD in Media, Anthropology, Film Studies, or related field.

Students who complete the Certificate in Documentary Media Studies from The New School and apply for and are admitted to the MA in Media Studies or MS in Media Management may transfer all certificate credits earned with a grade of B or above.
