The Department of Art offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in art and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in art. The BFA degree options are art education, graphic design, and studio (two-dimensional emphasis and three-dimensional emphasis). The BA degree options are art history and studio (two-dimensional emphasis and three-dimensional emphasis).

About

The Studio Art option with two-dimensional emphasis offers students the opportunity to study various 2D studio media. Studio classes are offered in: drawing, painting, printmaking and digital art.

Instruction in the studio processes is done with an emphasis on creativity, craftsmanship, application and understanding of design principles, and safety.

The Studio Art option with three-dimensional emphasis offers the student the opportunity to study various 3D studio media. Studio classes are offered in ceramics, metalsmithing/ jewelry, and sculpture. Instruction in the studio processes is done with an emphasis on creativity, craftsmanship, application and understanding of design principles, and safety.

    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00. Academic Requirements

  1. Application for Admission
  2. Official records (transcripts or mark sheets) beginning with secondary school. Transcripts must bear the seal and signature of the appropriate school official, and be accompanied by an official English translation if necessary. A minimum grade point average of a 2.0 on a 4.0 scale is required. All transcripts become property of this University. Transfer students are strongly encouraged to submit course descriptions or syllabi as this information will greatly expedite the transfer process.
  3. English Language Proficiency Requirement: Official TOEFL, IELTS, STEP EIKEN, Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB), or iTEP Academic Plus Examination mailed directly from the respective testing service. The school code for Eastern Illinois University is 1199. Test results are valid for two years only. Required scores are listed here. Please note, conditional admission is possible for students who have not met the English requirement.
  4. A completed International Student Financial Affidavit Form, documenting sufficient funding for the intended program of study. To see the total cost of one year of study, please see our Costs page.
  5. Non-refundable application fee of $30.00 U.S. in the form of a check, certified check or money order made payable to Eastern Illinois University.

Technological Requirements

Minimum laptop requirement: For all Art majors the recommended minimum configured laptop is the MacBook Pro 15-inch with 2.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, processor (Turbo Boost up tp 3.4GHz) with 6MB shared L3 cache, 256 GB PCle-based flash stroage. If you are able to purchase an Apple laptop with greater processor speed, memory and screen size and/or quality, then consider selecting that laptop. Recommended: a 4GB or larger flash drive for backup and easy transport of files; carrying case or laptop backpack; the extended warranty; either an external hard drive for backup or a remote backup service. Software requirements: Microsoft Office (student edition), Adobe Creative Cloud Design Standard (education version) (www.adobe.com).
