Typically, students choose the Semester at CSUN course offered by California State University Northridge in order to:

  • complete coursework (credits earned can be transferred to their home universities or can be applied toward a degree at CSUN or another U.S. university or college should that institution approve the credit transfer),
  • study subjects not taught or not available in their home countries,
  • gain new perspectives in their fields of study,
  • experience campus life at an American university, and/or
  • learn about the culture of Southern California

Students may choose from the many courses offered by the university each semester. Enrollment is on a space-available basis and requires students to meet the course prerequisites and obtain the department's/instructor's approval.

The full range of support services offered to Semester at CSUN students, includes academic advisement and assistance in choosing appropriate courses, assistance with registration, and general assistance throughout the semester to ease assimilation with campus life.

Participants in this program also receive a CSUN student identification card, which provides access to campus-wide free Wi-Fi connection, computer labs, and printers. Students can also use the Oviatt Library, Student Health Center, Student Recreation Center (for a small fee), swimming pools, and many other university facilities.

Students choose to study in SAC in order to

  • experience the Southern California lifestyle.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 2.5

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.5 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
