Overview

Criminology at Saint Mary's University have developed innovative research programs that investigate a range of criminological issues, including organized crime and youth-at-risk (Schneider); restorative justice and gender-based violence (Crocker); terrorism (Carver); mental illness and crime (Livingston); violence and fear of crime (Collins); and LGBTIQ-based violence and hate crimes (Gomez).

Careers

For students seeking advance critical training in criminology, SMU offers the only Master of Arts program in Criminology in Atlantic Canada. Few job titles explicitly say “criminologist;” however, a degree in Criminology provides foundational knowledge and skills that are well suited for a number of interesting career options.

General requirements

Official transcripts of final grades once they are available.

English Proficiency

Students are required to have completed the equivalent of grade 12 level university preparatory English and 4 other university preparatory courses.

Students may be admitted if they have completed the IB Diploma with a total score of 24 points and a minimum grade of 3 in required courses.

For international applicants, the general requirements for admission for each program are comparable to those in 2b, with the noted exception that we will consider a senior-level language course in the applicant's native language in lieu of the grade 12 English language course requirement.
